TCM Film Festival: celebrates 50th Anniversary Screening of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'


Turner Classic Movies (TCM)has added five films, special appearances and tributes to its slate for theTCM Classic Film Festival, including a 50th anniversary screening of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "The Birds"(1963), which will be attended by the film’s star, Tippi Hedren. Documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles will be on hand for a tribute to his extraordinary career, including presentations of his films "Gimme Shelter" (1970) and "Salesman" (1968). The festival lineup will also feature a world-premiere screening of the newly restored World War I film "The Big Parade" (1925) and a presentation of the powerful anti-war drama The "Razor's Edge" (1946).

The TCM Classic Film Festival will take place Thursday, April 25 – Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Hollywood.

Tippi Hedren
The Birds (1963) – 50th Anniversary Screening, with appearance by star Tippi HedrenLeading lady Tippi Hedren will attend this year’s festival for a special 50th anniversary screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s technologically groundbreaking and horrifying tale of avian aggression.
Gimme ShelterTribute to Documentary Filmmaker Albert MayslesThe TCM Classic Film Festival will pay tribute to documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, who will be on-hand for screenings of Gimme Shelter (1970) and Salesman (1968), two films he made with David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin.
Gimme Shelter
 (1970)
, which has been called "the greatest rock film of the greatest rock and roll band," chronicles the Rolling Stones and their tragically ill-fated 1969 free concert at the Altamont Speedway. This film is presented by festival program partner Bonhams.
SalesmanSalesman (1968) is a landmark documentary that captures in vivid detail the bygone era of door-to-door Bible salesmen and their daily frustrations with quotas and life on the road.
The Big ParadeThe Big Parade (1925) – World Premiere RestorationJohn Gilbert and Renée Adorée star in director King Vidor’s influential World War I tale of an idle rich boy turned soldier who finds friendship, love and loss in the trenches of France. This presentation features a pre-recorded original score by composer Carl Davis.

Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, Anne Baxter and Herbert Marshall star in Edmund Goulding’s adaptation of the W. Somerset Maugham novel about a young man’s search for life’s meaning after witnessing the horrors of war.
